A disturbing incident has occurred in Nsukka town, Enugu State, where Oriokpa masquerades have beaten and brutalized pedestrians during a demonstration. The masquerades, wielding canes, marched through the town, unleashing terror on innocent residents.
Eyewitness accounts and video clips reveal the devastating attacks, with some residents sustaining varying degrees of injuries. An unconfirmed report suggests that one of the victims died after being crushed by a moving vehicle while being chased by the masquerades.
A social activist, Chijinkem Ugwuanyi, has condemned the brutality, stating that the Oriokpa masquerades' actions are becoming increasingly severe despite efforts by the Nsukka Local Government to check their excesses. Ugwuanyi has called on the local government chairman and the state governor to take immediate action to stop the masquerades' hooliganism.
The Nsukka Local Government had previously issued number tags to the masquerades and warned them against inflicting terror on residents. However, the masquerades appear to have resumed their brutal activities, with Ugwuanyi documenting several incidents of violence and abuse.
Ugwuanyi has demanded that the local government chairman and the state governor take decisive action to stop the Oriokpa masquerades' brutality. With several residents injured and one potentially dead, the situation demands urgent attention and action to restore safety and security in Nsukka town.
