Kenneth Okonkwo, a former Spokesman for the Labour Party's Presidential Campaign Council, has challenged Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the party, to tell the world how he betrayed him after leaving the Labour Party. Okonkwo made this statement on Channels Television's Sunday Politics programme, emphasizing his loyalty to Obi during his time as spokesman.
Okonkwo had parted ways with Obi and the Labour Party in July 2024, citing intra-party squabbles and Obi's failure to address them. He had been a vocal supporter of Obi during the last election and had denied receiving any financial benefits or favors from him.
The disagreement between Okonkwo and Obi appears to have stemmed from Okonkwo's decision to leave the party and Obi's subsequent comments about betrayal. Okonkwo argued that he couldn't betray someone he no longer worked for and challenged Obi to specify how he had been betrayed.
Okonkwo also responded to Obi's analogy about Jesus and his 12 disciples, one of whom betrayed him. Okonkwo pointed out that if Obi was drawing a parallel between himself and Jesus, it would imply that Obi sees himself as infallible.
