Fugitive Arrested in Dominican Republic After New York Family Murder

Luis Soriano captured in Punta Cana weeks after brutal slaying of four relatives

Luis Francisco Soriano, 31, also known as Jefry Yevo, has been captured in the Dominican Republic after allegedly murdering four members of his extended family in Irondequoit, New York. The victims included two children, ages 2 and 4. Soriano was arrested by U.S. Marshals in Punta Cana, where he had been working at a hotel call center under a false identity.

Luis Francisco Soriano, 31, also known as Jefry Yevo, was arrested in the Dominican Republic, where he had fled after allegedly killing a family of four—including two children, ages two and four.

Soriano and his brother, Julio Soriano, have been accused of killing 30-year-old Fraime Ubaldo; 26-year-old Marangely Moreno-Santiago; four-year-old Evangeline Ubaldo-Moreno (pictured right); and two-year-old Sebastian Ubaldo-Moreno (pictured left).

Authorities allege that Soriano and his brother, 34-year-old Julio Cesar Pimentel-Soriano, killed 30-year-old Fraime Ubaldo, his partner 26-year-old Marangely Moreno-Santiago, and their children Evangeline and Sebastian Ubaldo-Moreno. Investigators found their charred bodies in the basement of a burning home on August 31, with stab wounds to the neck and chest confirming homicide.

Soriano's brother, Julio Cesar Pimentel-Soriano (pictured), 34, was arrested on September 7 and indicted on charges of murder, burglary, arson, and kidnapping.

Investigators confirmed that the gruesome deaths — which left veteran police shaken — were homicides after discovering stab wounds in the necks and chest of each victim.

Irondequoit Police Chief Scott Peters described the crime scene as the most horrific he has encountered in his 32-year career. Julio was arrested on September 7 and charged with murder, arson, burglary, and kidnapping. He has pleaded not guilty.

After the killings, Luis Soriano reportedly fled to Puerto Rico and later traveled by boat to the Dominican Republic. His arrest followed close cooperation between U.S. and international law enforcement. “This horrific crime shook our communities to the core,” said U.S. Marshal Wilmer Ocasio-Ibarra. “This capture proves our commitment to justice.”

In the wake of the tragedy, neighbors and relatives created a street-side memorial of balloons and stuffed animals. Local residents, like neighbor James Settles, said they are relieved the suspects are in custody but continue to feel the lasting impact of the crime.

In the days following the tragic murders, relatives and friends gathered to pay tribute to the victims with a makeshift vigil of balloons and stuffed animals.

Luis Soriano remains in Dominican custody pending extradition to the United States to face charges.
