A devastating suicide bombing attack occurred during mass at the Mar Elias Church in Dweil'a, on the outskirts of Damascus, Syria. According to the Syrian Ministry of Health and Security, at least 20 people were killed, and dozens more were injured.
The attacker, affiliated with the ISIL (ISIS) group, entered the church, fired at the people, and then ignited himself with an explosives vest. Witnesses reported hearing gunfire and a massive explosion, which caused widespread panic and chaos.
Rescue teams from the Syria Civil Defence quickly responded to the scene, recovering bodies and providing medical assistance to the injured. The Syrian government has condemned the attack as a "terrorist" act, and the country's information minister, Hamza al-Mostafa, pledged to continue fighting crime and protecting society from all threats.
The attack has been widely condemned by the international community, including France's foreign ministry, which expressed its full support to the Syrian people and hoped for a return to peace in the country. The incident highlights the ongoing security concerns in Syria, which is still recovering from a nearly 14-year civil war that left millions of people dead and displaced.
