A tragic incident has shaken the village of Trémolat in southwest France, where a 65-year-old British-South African woman, Karen Carter, was found stabbed to death outside her home. Authorities have confirmed that a 69-year-old woman, believed to be known to the victim and her husband, has been taken into custody as part of the investigation.
According to the Bergerac public prosecutor, Sylvie Martins-Guedes, the suspect is a resident of Trémolat and is part of the couple's circle. The investigation revealed that the victim had several injuries, including five deep ones caused by a sharp object, notably on her right breast, groin, arm, and leg. The injuries were described as "particularly violent" and demonstrated an intent to kill.
Karen Carter, a mother of four, was a long-time resident of the village and was known for her involvement in local life. She operated guest accommodations popular with British tourists and was described as a "delightful, energetic person who got on with everybody" by a Trémolat resident.
The village is in shock, and residents are struggling to understand how such a violent crime could occur in a peaceful place like Trémolat. Many are keeping their doors locked, and there is a sense of worry and fear in the community.
