Abuja Estate Under Siege: Armed Assailants Hold Residents Hostage

In the early hours of Monday, May 26, 2025, a brazen attack was carried out on the Grow Homes Estate in the Chikakore area of Kubwa, Abuja. Heavily armed assailants overpowered the local vigilante team and held residents hostage for over an hour, sparking widespread fear and concern.

The incident occurred between 12:00 AM and 1:30 AM, with eyewitnesses reporting that at least two individuals—a man and a woman—were abducted. However, by daybreak, the woman was found within the estate, having been released by her captors for reasons yet unknown. The exact number of abducted individuals remains unconfirmed.

Residents have expressed deep-seated concerns over the poor state of access roads in the area, which they believe hampers timely security responses. They are calling on the government to improve infrastructure and establish a nearby police station to enhance rapid response capabilities.

This incident adds to the growing concerns about security in Abuja’s suburban areas, highlighting the need for enhanced protective measures for residents. The community is demanding more effective security measures to prevent such incidents in the future.

The authorities are currently investigating the incident, and efforts are being made to apprehend the perpetrators. The incident serves as a wake-up call for the government to prioritize security and infrastructure development in the area.
