An Indiana teenager, Ahmed Al-Malahi, has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for the murder of his father, Tawfika Al-Malahi, inside their family's convenience store. The 18-year-old pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter for the February 2023 killing, which shocked the local community due to its brutality and the teen's calm demeanor afterward.
According to court documents, Ahmed Al-Malahi launched a premeditated attack on his father, stabbing him 45 times inside the One Stop Store on Creighton Avenue. The teen allegedly hid under a table, waiting for his father to arrive, and then struck him in the back and head with a piece of metal. Even after Tawfika Al-Malahi had collapsed, Ahmed continued the attack, slitting his throat and inflicting a skull fracture.
After the attack, Ahmed Al-Malahi attempted to stage the scene to look like a robbery. He cleaned parts of the store with bleach, stole money from the cash register, and took the DVR containing the surveillance footage. He then disposed of the evidence in a dumpster behind a nearby elementary school.
Despite the brutal killing, Ahmed Al-Malahi continued his day as though nothing had happened. He rode his bicycle and then took a bus to Northrop High School, arriving around 11:40 a.m. His calm demeanor at school further stunned investigators, given the severity of the crime committed just hours earlier.
As part of the plea deal, Ahmed Al-Malahi avoided a potential life sentence for murder. He will receive approximately 14 months of credit for time already served in custody and will spend most of his adult life in prison.
