A strange and tragic incident has stirred shock across Ijebu Ode, Ogun State, following the reported death of a man who allegedly attempted to steal a revered statue of the Agemo deity.
The incident happened in the early hours of Saturday, April 12, 2025, at the Mafowoku roundabout along Folagbade Road. Locals awoke to find the once-standing golden Agemo statue—commissioned over 20 years ago—toppled to the ground, with the lifeless body of a man lying nearby.
Eyewitnesses say the man, dressed in a blue shirt, was discovered near the base of the fallen statue. A video from the scene, which quickly went viral on social media, captured the surreal aftermath, sparking debate and speculation.
While the exact cause of death remains unclear, some residents believe it was the result of supernatural retribution linked to the spiritual significance of the statue.
A local, who witnessed the incident firsthand, described the moment residents discovered the scene. “It happened right in front of my house. We heard a noise during the night. When we came out, we saw the statue had fallen, and the man was lying there, dead,” he recounted.
The man’s body was later taken away by authorities and moved to the mortuary. An investigation into the incident is reportedly underway.
