The Kano State Police Command has confirmed the killing of a notorious armed robbery suspect, Halifa Baba-Beru, during an operation by its patrol team. The suspect, a resident of Gwammaja Quarters in Dala Local Government Area, was arrested on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, by officers attached to the Dala Division.
According to police sources, the arrest occurred around 1:00 p.m., but the situation turned violent when Baba-Beru's accomplices attacked the patrol team in an attempt to rescue him. Two officers, Corporal Abdullahi Ibrahim and Sergeant Yahaya Saidu, sustained serious injuries during the confrontation, while the suspect also sustained gunshot wounds.
The injured policemen and the suspect were rushed to the Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital, where the suspect was confirmed dead while receiving treatment. The police have launched an investigation into the incident and are working to apprehend the fleeing accomplices.
