A Magistrate’s Court in Ado-Ekiti has ordered the remand of 20-year-old Joy Ikoja for allegedly injuring her boyfriend, Ibrahim Usman, during a heated altercation.
The incident reportedly occurred around 8 p.m. on April 12 in the Irona area of Ado-Ekiti. According to police prosecutor Inspector Adeboye Adesegun, Joy is accused of tearing Ibrahim’s scrotum during the dispute, causing him serious injury and public disturbance.
The charges, based on the Criminal Laws of Ekiti State 2021, carry serious implications. Inspector Adesegun opposed bail, arguing that the defendant might flee if released.
However, Joy’s lawyer, David Ogbede, appealed for bail, assuring the court that she would comply with all conditions and appear for trial.
Magistrate Olatomiwa Daramola denied the bail request and ordered that Joy be remanded in Ado-Ekiti Correctional Centre. The case was adjourned until April 22 for further hearing.
